Jennifer Lord
When people ask Jennifer, "How long have you been doing hair?” she always responds, “All my life!” Jennifer Lord was born in Brooklyn, New York to Grenadian parents. She has vivid memories as a two-year-old at day care, sitting amidst a group of girls trying to reinvent their mommy’s braid, twist or cornrow. By the time she was 4, she could cornrow with ease. “I was born with a genuine love, skill and passion for hair. My father is a barber; it’s in my genes.” She enrolled at Morgan State University and became everyone’s favorite campus beautician, creating hair styles that turned her college dorm room into a campus salon. She graduated, trained at cosmetology school, and within a few years Jennifer took the hair styling industry by storm as a participant in the Milky Way Hair Show & Competition, the world famous Bronner Brother’s International Hair Show in Atlanta, Georgia, Toronto Natural Hair and Beauty Show, The Baltimore Natural Hair Show and The Natural Hair Academy in Paris, France.
Jennifer is an award-winning hair stylist and former salon owner, dedicated to changing the perception of Natural Hair across the globe. Over the last few years, she has been working behind the curtain in some of the country’s most exclusive runway shows, like Texture on the Runway during New York Fashion Week, The Ankara Festival of Los Angeles (AFLA) and one of the world’s largest festivals dedicated to natural hair, NZURI, featured on Fox26 News in Houston. At the request of Washington DC’s WUSA9 News, Jennifer has been invited to present the models of Natural Hollywood to a nationally-televised audience and share her philosophy on the world of natural hair. Her views have been a hot topic across the United States.
As one of the Millennials’ pioneers of natural hair beauty and awareness, she has presented as an expert at Morgan State University, University of Maryland, Towson University, Paul’s Place, The Reginald F. Lewis Museum and The Center for Law and Justice at Medgar Evers College in Brooklyn, NY. Natural Hollywood has been featured in Hype Hair Magazine, Allure Magazine, I_D Magazine, on AFROPUNK, GLAMOUR, ESSENCE and several blogs including Style Stamped and 4CHairChicks. Jennifer recently made her Broadway debut as a stylist on Hadestown, winner of 8 Tony awards. Her education course for natural hair, "The School of Natural Hollywood" allows her to teach to hair stylists in the theatre, film and television industry.
Natural Hollywood Magazine has produced several presentations, photo shoots and fashion shows at local, national and international venues. The success of the highly acclaimed “Adversity Quotient” gallery event that sold-out in May 2011, led her to produce “A Night of Grandeur” in 2013, a natural hair art exhibit appealing to artists, art lovers and all who are intrigued by self-expression. Within these creative collaborations, she discovered a deeper passion for photojournalism, media production and art on digital film, out of which arose Natural Hollywood Magazine and The Natural Aristocratic Tea Parties. The Natural Hollywood productions culminated in a Winter 2016 that wasn’t so cold after all because Jennifer headed from Brooklyn, New York to West Africa to host a Pop-Up Tea. There, she also produced several photo shoots in Ghana and Nigeria. On these tours, her trademark images travel and profess that natural hair is high fashion and fabulous. Experiences like these give the Natural Hollywood Coffee Table Book its global effect; the global saga continues. See for yourself.
Jamie Amadio
Originally from Rochester, MN, Jamie has lived in many cities over the years, finally landing in New York City in 2013. She credits Chicago, IL for helping her to find her love for hair, beginning with learning how to properly style and build wigs for the stage. She attended the DePaul University Wig and Hair School in 2009 and it forever changed the course of her career.
She made a brief pit stop in Austin, TX for a couple years, where she did both Hair and Makeup for the Opera and was a Local hire for Broadway tours passing through. She also built wigs for women with cancer and alopecia, a great privilege and honor that she truly loved being able to do. Since moving to NYC, she has been a Wig and Hair Supervisor for five Broadway shows, including “The Color Purple (Revival)” and “The Band’s Visit,” both Tony Award and Grammy Award-winning productions.
In addition to her theater work, Jamie also works as a Hair Department Head for TV/Film in the New York area. She has seen first hand the devastating effects a lack of hair education can have for both hairstylists and talent, and she is dedicated to making sure the conversation continues in getting textured hair education into all cosmetology schools.
“It is unacceptable for hair stylists to not have a working knowledge of highly textured and multi-textured hair to be able to service anyone who sits down in their chair. Knowing how to properly wash, detangle, and style such textures is vital for the growth and development of our industry to be better and do better for all involved.”
